Looking to downsize to a great retirement community, assisted living community, or senior apartments in Kelowna, West Kelowna, or Lake Country, BC? 

This article shows you Kelowna’s best age-restricted communities for 45 and 55 plus residents. With over 300 days of sunshine per year, sandy beaches on Okanagan Lake, walkable neighborhoods, excellent golf courses, and mild winters with plenty to do, the Okanagan Valley is a retirement paradise.

About 55 Plus Communities

Age-restricted communities, also known as 45 or 55 plus communities, are housing developments built exclusively for seniors and adults without children. Active adult living communities refer to developments with resort-style amenities like pools, entertainment rooms, theatres, fitness centres, activity spaces, walking paths, and parks.

Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER)

If you’re a British Columbia senior resident over age 60 with a low or moderate income, you may be eligible for monthly cash rent subsidies through the SAFER program. Check the BC Housing website for details.

Strata Fees & Homeowner Association Dues

If you live in a 55 plus or 45 plus development, you’ll most likely pay a monthly fee to your Homeowner Association that manages the community.

Homeowner Association fees are non negotiable and help pay for services like road maintenance, landscaping, snow removal, and upkeep of shared amenities like clubhouses, swimming pools, or tennis courts.

You can expect to pay around $200 and $500 per month in homeowner or strata fees, depending on the amenities provided by the facility. Review your Homeowners Association’s governing document for details.
